I need to book a Radiology X-ray appointment - how do I do this?
I've received an Email/SMS text to book my X-ray appointment - how do I book this?
When your referring Doctor / Healthcare professional refers you for a Radiology X-ray/Ultrasound/DEXA Scan, you will receive an email/SMS text inviting you to book online via the Swiftqueue portal.
Please note: Some NHS Trusts will send SMS only, some will send email & SMS
There are 3 different ways to book your X-ray appointment via Swiftqueue.
- Directly via the specific link in your Email/SMS
- Via the Active Referrals tab once you are logged into your Swiftqueue Patient Portal
- Via the Book Appointments button once you are logged into your Swiftqueue Patient Portal.
Option 1: Book by specific link in Email/SMS Text - Invitation to book your X-Ray appointment online.
- The SMS/email will include a specific link unique to you which you need to click on to book.
Step 1:
- Once you click on the link, you will be invited to either register as a new patient (if you have not used Swiftqueue before) or to login as an existing user (if you have previously used Swiftqueue)
- If you are using Swiftqueue for the first time, please login using your NHS login. (Please see our Registration Article if you need any help registering)
(If you have forgotten your login details, you can reset your password by clicking on the I forgot password option on the login page - for more information please see Reset My Password)
Once you login to your account: You will now see the options showing for Radiology X-ray.
- Swiftqueue will display the hospital sites for your specific NHS Trust with the next available date and time for your specific radiology appointment.
- Click the 'Book an Appointment' for your preferred hospital location.
- Sample screenshot shown below. Screenshots may vary slightly from Trust to Trust.
Step 2: Special Assistance Form
- Once you click on your hospital location, you are then prompted to fill out the special assistance form before continuing to book your X-ray appointment.
- Please click on Open Special Assistance Form to answer the questions.
- Please note the Special Assistance questions will differ at each NHS Trust. Screen shot below is a sample only.
- Please select Yes or No to the questions.
- If selecting YES, please specify which assistance is required.
- Click submit details once finished.
- Once you submit the form, you will see the Form complete message.
- Please click Next button to continue to book your X-ray appointment.
Step 3: Choose Date and Time for your X-ray appointment
- Select the date and time you wish to attend for your appointment and then click the NEXT button.
- The time screen will offer you the next available time.
- You can click the right arrow to move to a later date /month if needed.
- Select your preferred date and time.
- On the confirmation page tick the box to agree to the terms and conditions and select which special assistance is required.
- Then click confirm.
- Your Appointment will now show in the Upcoming Appointments section in your patient portal
- You will also receive a confirmation email / SMS for your appointment once booked.
- Please check your Junk / Spam folder if you don't receive this incase it has been redirected there instead of your main email folder.
Option 2: To book via the Active Referrals Tab in Swiftqueue Patient Portal
- Once you login to your Swiftqueue Patient Portal account, please click on the Active Referrals tab.
- This will show a list of all referrals waiting to be booked or already allocated.
- Click on the Book Appointment button beside the Waiting status.
- You can also view details for your X-ray referral by clicking the Blue View Details button.
- This will then bring you to choose your preferred location - see screenshots above in Step 1 for the remainder of the booking flow.
Option 3: To book via the Book Appointments button in Swiftqueue Patient Portal
- Once you login to your Swiftqueue Patient Portal account, please click on the Book Appointment button.
- Click on the green arrow under the Referrals awaiting booking section.
- This will then bring you to choose your preferred location - see screenshots above in Step 1 for the remainder of the booking flow.
